I am so happy to have discovered it. I couldn’t be sure, but the look in his eyes at that moment was so mysterious, so fraught with the glow of some inner delight, that it suddenly occurred to me that he had made the whole thing up.


I was about to ask him if he’d been putting me on, but then i realized het would never tell. Despite Amazon’s utterly outrageous price of nearly seven dollars for what is, essentially, a short story requiring a ten minute read – it was worth it.

He shares his frustrations with Auggie, who offers him a possible solution: I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I have never heard anything about its spine. I was expecting a magical twist in the tale, but it just petered out rather disappointingly. I was killing time at the library today and this little book captured my attention so I grabbed it and read it while waiting for my bus.


However, this story is still something of a must read, particularly for big fans of Auster’s work as well as those who just want to read an excellent shory story that is unsentimental uaggie still heartfelt like nothing else you have auvgie before.

But the writing itself was lovely. I dropped into the Rite Aid and rooted through the umbrella rack.
